Date Listed: Jul-03-08 Volunteers Needed Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women, a nationally known non-profit organization, is looking for volunteers to assist victims of domestic abuse. Answering Service Operator (ASO) ASO’s commit to work at least one-12 hour shift a week covering our helpline. ASO’s are the first voice our clients hear when they call our toll free helpline. ASO’s take initial information from the caller such as; name, phone number, and a brief description of the reason they called. They then pass this information to the helpline advocate who is on call. At present on a typical 12-hour daytime shift eight to ten, calls come into the helpline. The ASO must take our 30-hour online helpline advocates training prior to working as a volunteer in this position. Helpline Advocate (HA) HA’s work at least one-scheduled 4 to 8 hour shift per week and make a one year commitment to the organization. During their weekly shift HA’s are responsible for taking calls that come into the helpline. They must also attend one monthly volunteer meeting via teleconference (approx. 2 hours a month). HA’s must take our 30-hour online training. Email the director at dahmwagency@gmail.com for an application.
